COUNTER-TERRORISM & STATE SECURITY
Security Planning
Proactive planning for the protection of people, infrastructure and other assets is vital as terrorists often target sites that offer easy access. It is therefore a matter of good corporate governance for owners and operators to take steps to protect their business, staff and community.
There is no standard checklist that can cover the security needs of every company or facility. Security planning should consider elements that will protect personnel, physical infrastructure, assets, data and information technology.
Security planning should be risk based, commensurate with the threat and scalable to enable rapid escalation if required. Security arrangements should provide protection through deterrence, detection, delay and response procedures.
Owners and operators of businesses, places of mass gathering and critical infrastructure should consult with relevant government agencies and the Western Australia Police to ensure that security plans are able to respond to any change in the level of threat.
A list of basic measures that could be implemented, at different levels of threat, can be found here.
